Which guard is best?
Stainless micro-mesh handles fine debris like fluff and needles and takes heavy rain. A screen is cheaper and fine under trees with big leaves. Foam inserts we do not install.
Will guards cause ice dams?
Guards do not cause ice dams. Poor attic insulation and ventilation do. Guards can hold a ridge of ice on the front edge in a bad winter, and we can add heat cable where that keeps happening.
Do you have to lift the shingles?
No. We fasten to the gutter and the fascia. Lifting shingles can void a roof warranty.
